Buttermilk Biscuits
Ingredients:
- 8 tablespoons (1 stick) of butter
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 tablespoon of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon of cream of tartar
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1 cup of buttermilk
- Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, cut the butter into small pieces.
- Add the all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cream of tartar to the bowl with the butter.
- Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, mix the ingredients until they resemble coarse crumbs.
- Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the honey and buttermilk.
- Stir the mixture until the ingredients are just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can result in tough biscuits.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together.
- Shape the dough into a square that’s about an inch thick.
- Cut the square into 9 equal pieces.
- Place the biscuit pieces in an 8×8-inch baking pan, leaving a little space between each piece.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
- Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
